When I took office 2 years ago, I set goals for myself and for my department to make Twin Falls County a safer community in which to live and raise a family. The plans implemented by the Sheriff’s Office are benefitting the citizens of our county as well as providing us cohesion with our surrounding areas.

Twin Falls County schools now have access to more than just law enforcement. The Sheriff’s Office is available to provide assistance and education at any time without having to put additional strain on an already tight budget. This alliance with area schools serves to keep our children educated and to provide assistance whenever needed.

Upon taking office, I knew one of the things I wanted to emphasize was our service to the community in a capacity that goes beyond police work. The Community Resource Unit was developed to place deputies in key positions to establish and maintain communication with the public, school districts, and other public safety agencies to promote the well-being of our people. The CRU is trained in drug education, drug trends, drug identification, traffic safety, school security, driver’s safety, self defense and more. They are available to teach at any venue without cost.

I am extremely proud to have joined with other jurisdictions to establish a task force that combats the methamphetamine scourge that threatens the fabric of our community. This team is supervised by a seasoned agent from Gooding County and includes local agents as well as our impressive K-9 division. The message I want to convey is simple: If you do drugs, we will put you in jail. If you deal drugs, we will catch you, put you in jail and seize anything you have acquired with those profits.

I am also pleased with the high level of fiscal responsibility taken by the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office. We understand the economy is tight and make every dollar count. I have a budget director that takes full responsibility to see that your money is spent wisely; we have stayed within the boundaries defined by our Board of County Commissioners for the last 2 years.

In closing, I look forward to continuing to lead this great department in a manner that will keep us productive, pro-active, and accessible. We are very proud to be serving in a community like ours and will continue to do what we can to ensure that you are proud of us.

Thank you,

Sheriff Tom Carter
