COMPLETE CONCEALED WEAPON LAWS. Applicants please read all instructions prior to filling out
your CWL application. DO NOT ABBREVIATE any of your personal information on your
application. Use your full legal name. List you physical residence, not your
mailing address. DO NOT SIGN OR DATE YOUR APPLICATION. The Deputy will need to witness your
signature.
FIRST TIME APPLICANTS: FIRST TIME APPLICANTS NEED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF ‘FAMILIARITY
WITH FIREARMS’ TRAINING. See Idaho Code
18-3303(13)(a-g) for acceptable proofs. Listed below are some examples: Hunters education or hunters safety course approved by the Department of Fish and Game, or a similar agency of another state. Completion of any firearms safety or training course, utilizing instructors certified by the National Rifle Association or the Idaho State Police. Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or subdivision of a law enforcement agency. Presents evidence or equivalent experience with a firearm through military service.
All first time applicants will need an appointment to submit
their application and supporting documents. Be sure to read all the information
provided and fill out required information. (DO NOT SIGN OR DATE.) Contact
SSgt. Doug Sugden at 208-735-4866, for an appointment. At the time of your appointment, you will submit your
application and supporting documents and you will be fingerprinted. A fee of
$56.50 will be collected at the time of your appointment. You may pay with cash, local personal checkor debit/credit card. Should
you be rejected for your CWL, there will be no refunds. New applicants will be contacted within 90 days after the
date the application was submitted. Applicants will be advised of their
application status and an appointment will be made if the permit is to be
issued. RENEWAL APPLICANTS: An appointment is not needed. A completed CWL application can be submitted in person to a licencing clerk, at the driver's license side of the DMV, for renewal
within 90 days before or after the expiration date listed on the CWL. A fee of
$37.50 will be collected when you submit your renewal application. Should you be rejected for your CWL, there
will be no refunds. Any CWL expired 91
days or more will pay a late fee of $10.00. The applicant will be contacted within 30 days and advised
on the status of their application. An appointment will be made if application
is approved. CARRYING YOUR CONCEALED WEAPON LICENSE
You are required to have your CWL in possession when
carrying a concealed weapon. KEEP YOUR WEAPON CONCEALED
It is suggested that you keep your weapon concealed. If you
accidentally or intentionally display your weapon to others, you should expect
that a police officer will contact you. NAME CHANGE OR ADDRESS CHANGE
If your legal name changes or you move and your address is
changed, please go to Driver’s License to get it changed. If your CWL is lost or stolen, please contact Driver's License or SSgt. Doug Sugden. CARRYING IN OTHER STATES
It is the responsibility of the Licensee to seek other
States’ rules and regulation regarding Idaho’s Concealed Weapons Licenses. DO
NOT ASSUME it will be honored in other states. Contact each individual State’s
Attorney General’s Office for more information.
