STATE OF IDAHO

CONCEALED WEAPONS LICENSE

Idaho Code 18-3302   Issuance of licenses to carry concealed weapons. (1)  The sheriff of a county, on behalf of the state of Idaho, shall, within ninety (90) days after the filing of an application by any person who is not disqualified from possession or receiving a firearm under state or federal law, issue a license to the person to carry a weapon concealed on his person within this state.  Click the link below to view complete Idaho Code 18-3302

The CWL Application Packet, for new and renewal, along with instructions and information can be obtained at our Criminal Records or Civil Process windows on the first floor of the Twin Falls County Courthouse, located at 425 Shoshone Street North, Twin Falls, or at our Drivers License at  the ‘DMV Building’, 260 4th Avenue North, Twin Falls.

FIRST TIME APPLICATION

Proof of ‘Familiarity with Firearm Training’ in document form, will need to be provided at the time of your initial application process.  A list of acceptable training is on the instruction sheet of the CWL Application Packet or you can refer to Idaho Code 18-3302(13) (a-g).

 

Once you have all the necessary documents as the instructions state, you will need to contact Kenya Williams at (208) 736-4110 to schedule an appointment.  At that time we will start your initial process.  DO NOT SIGN YOUR APPLICATION.   Your signature on your application will need to be witnessed.   You can fill out the top portion of the application (DO NOT use abbreviations) and answer the questions, but do not sign before your scheduled appointment.   You will need the following items for your appointment:

  • CWL Application filled out, but NOT SIGNED
  • Current Drivers License or Identification Card
  • Documentation of 'Familiarity with a Firearm'
  • Application Fee of $34.00   ($10.00 goes to the Idaho Bureau of Identification & $24.00 to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for a records check)
  • For non-U.S. Citizens, your legal presence documents

Once your application has been submitted, the process can take a minimum of 90 days.  When the information comes back from Idaho State Police showing the applicant has no criminal history, the applicant  will be contacted and an appointment set up for issuance of their 5 year Idaho Concealed Weapon License.  Applicant will need the following for the issuance appointment:

  • Current Drivers License or Identification Card
  • Issuance Fee of $22.50 ($20.00 for the State License Fee & $2.50 processing fee)

RENEWAL APPLICATION

Every CWL that is not as provided by law, suspended, revoked or disqualified in this state shall be renewable at any time during the ninety (90) day period before its expiration or within ninety (90) days after the expiration date.   A licensee renewing ninety-one (91) days or more after the expiration date of the license shall pay a late renewal penalty fee of $10.00 dollars.

 

All renewal applications are submitted to Kenya at the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office, located on the first floor of the Court House at 425 Shoshone Street North, Twin Falls. (208) 736-4110.

 

The top portion (without abbreviations) should be completed and all the questions answered but, DO NOT SIGN YOUR APPLICATION.  An Examiner will need to witness your signature upon submission.  You will need the following items when you submit your application for renewal:

  • Your current Concealed Weapons License
  • Your current state issued Drivers License or Identification Card
  • Your CWL application (state provided in triplicate form)
  • Provide your home and daytime telephone number
  • $5.00 for a State and National Database records check fee
  • $10.00 Late Renewal penalty fee (if expired 91 days or more)

  • For non-U.S. Citizens, your legal presence documents

This record check of State and National databases can take up to 30 days to complete.

 

When the information regarding your record check is received back from Idaho State Police giving the clearance for the license to be renewed, you will  be contacted to set up the appointment for issuance.  All issues are completed at our Drivers License Unit, located at 260 4th Avenue North, Twin Falls.  The following items will be needed at the time of issuance.

  • Current Concealed Weapons License
  • Current Drivers License or Identification Card
  • Issuance Fee of $17.50 ($15.00 for the State Renewal License Fee & $2.50 for processing fee)
