Capt. Doug Hughes, and Lt. Mike Wiggins, oversee the daily operations of the facility and report directly to the Sheriff and Undersheriff.
The Twin Falls County Adult Detention facility was constructed in the late eighties and began housing inmates in 1989. There are approximately thirty-one (31) detention deputies assigned to the jail. The detention deputy maintains the security, custody, discipline and welfare of those incarcerated at the facility. The jail runs two, twelve (12) hour shifts with 5-8 deputies per shift. The jail was originally built to house one hundred forty two (142) inmates. After expansion, the jail currently holds two hundred twenty four (224) inmates. The jail primarily houses misdemeanor and felony violators. This includes persons who may be serving a sentence, generally for less than one year, and also persons that are awaiting trial or sentencing.
Some of the duties of a detention deputy include the following:
Intake of new inmates, to include searching, booking, fingerprinting, and photographing
Supervise and escort prisoners to/from court, medical care, visitation, and exercising
Inspecting all incoming and outgoing mail
Entering and responding to correspondence between inmates and the facility
